If you use your oven a lot, it is unavoidable that cleaning it can seem like another full time job. All those little spits from cooking food, drips from trays being lifted out or just spills from meals cooking mean stains are inevitable.  But when it comes to cleaning them, all those harsh chemicals seem a bad idea.  So here are some of the best natural products to clean your oven.

a cup of baking soda

Baking soda and vinegar

One of the simplest and most effective oven cleaning natural products is the combination of baking soda and vinegar.  A great mixture is to take half a cup of baking soda and mix it with water to create a paste.  Spread this over the bottom and sides of the oven as well as the inside of the door but don’t touch the heating elements.

Leave it for two hours or even overnight.  Then grab a spray bottle and half will it with white vinegar and half with water. Spray this across the baking soda paste and watch it foam.  This is great for removing touch burnt-in stains.  Leave it for another 30 minutes then use a rubber spatula to remove the baking soda.  Wash over with a damp cloth to finish.

a bottle full of lemon and water in a spray

Water and lemons

Another simple cleaner is to combine the juice of two lemons with a pan of water.  Pop the pan into the oven and turn it on.  Leave it long enough so the water is boiling because the lemon infused steam will help to remove grime and grease from the inside of the oven.  Let the oven cool, remove the pan and wipe the inside with a damp cloth to clean it.

a bottle of vinegar

Water and vinegar

Another similar system is to use water and vinegar.  Pop one third of a pan of water on the stove and bring to the boil then add a similar amount of white vinegar and boil for 30 seconds.

Place the pan in the stove on one of the shelves and close the door.  Don’t turn the oven on but leave the pan in there for 45-60 minutes. Open the door, remove the pan and wash with a warm, damp cloth to remove grease and grime.

table salt close up

Table salt

Table salt can be a great quick fix for stains on the oven floor.  As soon as you spot the leak or stain, sprinkle a little salt on it. Once the oven has cooled, grab a rubber spatula and the stain will scrape off much easier than if you hadn’t used the salt.
